Short answer

A replica Vacheron Constantin 4500V copies the Overseas 41mm time-and-date, the steel sports watch with the blue dial and the integrated bracelet. The decent ones cost roughly $400 to $900 and get the case size, dial layout, date position and bracelet look close to right. They do not get the movement. The genuine watch runs an in-house calibre 5100 with a Geneva Seal and a 60-hour power reserve. No replica has that, whatever the listing claims.

What the real 4500V is

Vacheron Constantin released the current Overseas line in 2016, and the 4500V is the plain time-and-date model in the family. Steel case, 41mm across, about 11mm thick, 150m water resistance, soft iron cage for magnetic protection, and a sapphire back so you can see the rotor. The blue dial reference is the one everyone copies, and it is also the hardest to fake well. That dial has a lacquered finish with a slight sunburst, applied gold markers, and a Maltese cross motif on the counterweight of the seconds hand.

Buyers also care about the strap system. The genuine watch ships with a quick-release mechanism and three options: steel bracelet, rubber, and leather. A tool-free swap takes a couple of seconds.

The tiers you will actually find

  • Under $150. Quartz or a rough 21-jewel automatic. Bezel fluting is soft, the dial print is fuzzy, and the bracelet rattles. Skip these unless you want a beater.
  • $300 to $500. Japanese Miyota 9015 inside, decent case machining, correct 41mm diameter. Thickness usually lands 1mm to 2mm over the real thing because the movement is taller.
  • $600 to $900. Best case finishing, decorated rotor and bridges, sharper dial texture, and a bracelet with better end-link fit. This is the tier most hobbyists mean when they say a replica is good.

Details worth checking before you pay

  • Measure the listed thickness. Anything over 12.5mm sits noticeably taller on the wrist than the genuine watch.
  • Look at the date window. On cheap copies it is oversized and the font is wrong.
  • Check bezel fluting in photos shot in daylight. Soft edges read as plastic from a foot away.
  • Ask which movement and whether the rotor is decorated or plain. Decorated is not the same as accurate, but it tells you the tier.
  • Confirm the quick-release spring bars work. Some replicas claim the system and ship fixed bars.

Wear and sizing

The 4500V wears larger than 41mm suggests because the lugs are short and the bracelet is integrated. On a 6.5 inch wrist it fills the top of the arm. If your wrist is under 6.25 inches, the rubber strap helps more than the bracelet does. Extra links are often hard to source later, so ask for the full bracelet length up front.

Honest limits

A replica is not an investment and holds no resale value. Water resistance is a claim, not a guarantee, so keep it out of the pool and off the shower. Servicing is a gamble because parts come from the same grey channels as the watch. And nobody who handles watches for a living needs more than a few seconds with the caseback to know what it is. Buy one because you like how it looks, and treat the movement as a consumable.
