Short answer
A replica Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch copies the case shape, dial layout and bezel of the 42 mm Moonwatch. It does not copy the movement. Genuine Moonwatches run the hand-wound Omega caliber 3861 with a co-axial escapement and a METAS Master Chronometer certificate. No replica carries that movement or that certificate.

Numbers to check
- Case diameter: 42 mm on the genuine watch. Many replicas measure 42.5 mm to 43 mm on calipers.
- Case thickness: 13.2 mm on the 3861 version, 14.3 mm on the older 1861. Replicas with an automatic movement can reach 15 mm to 16 mm.
- Lug-to-lug: about 47.5 mm. Lug width: 20 mm. Bracelet taper: 15 mm at the clasp.
- Weight on the steel bracelet: about 155 g to 165 g.
- Crystal: hesalite or sapphire. Genuine hesalite has the Omega logo etched at the center. Sapphire versions show a ring around the movement.
Movement types inside replicas
Three movement families appear in replica Moonwatches.

- Quartz. Sub-dials at 3, 6 and 9 act as fake counters. The seconds hand steps once per second.
- Seagull ST19. Hand-wound, column wheel, 21,600 vph. Sub-dials sit closer to the center than on the genuine watch.
- Valjoux 7750 or a Chinese copy. Automatic, 28,800 vph, 12-6-9 sub-dial layout. The date wheel must sit behind the dial, or a date window shows where the Moonwatch has none.
Dial and bezel codes
Two bezel codes matter. The 2021 Moonwatch moved the tachymeter dot above 90, called dot over 90. Earlier models put the dot beside 90. Replicas mix both. The applied Omega logo, the stepped dial edge and the printed font are the parts that break first. Genuine dials use Super-LumiNova. Replica lume fades within minutes of leaving a light source.
Pushers, crown and caseback
Genuine pushers have short travel and a firm stop. Cheap copies feel soft and rattle. The crown on the 3861 sits flush against the case. Engraving on the caseback reads the same text on most replicas, but the depth and font weight differ. The seahorse medallion is stamped, not etched, on the genuine watch.

Buying risk
Trademark law applies. Selling a watch marked Omega is illegal in the US and the EU. Resale options are limited. Parts do not interchange with genuine components. Few dealers repair a replica. Water resistance claims are untested, so keep the watch away from water.
