How IWC builds a reference number
IWC splits a reference into two parts. The four-digit block identifies the calibre family and case design. The two-digit block identifies the metal, the dial, and the strap. That is why IW544775 and IW544776 can be the same watch in two metals. IWC prints the families in its catalogue, but it does not publish every two-digit suffix on the open web. For the -75 code, ask IWC or an authorized dealer for the build sheet. Public spec pages for the exact suffix are thin, and seller pages copy each other.
Movement
Tourbillon replicas at this price use one of three calibres: a Seagull ST8000, a Hangzhou tourbillon, or a copied IWC layout on a Chinese base. All three have a real rotating cage. Cheap listings under $300 often hide a decorated balance wheel behind an open dial, which is not a tourbillon. Ask for a video of the cage turning through a full minute.
Case, dial, crystal
Case sizes quoted by sellers land between 42 mm and 44 mm. Ask for a caliper photo. Gold tone comes from PVD or plating measured in microns, and it wears first at the lugs and the crown. The crystal should be sapphire with an inner anti-reflective coating. Dial checks: index alignment, print weight on the brand name, and the finish on the tourbillon aperture edge. - Water resistance claim. Most replicas are not pressure tested, so keep them out of water.
- Strap material. Genuine alligator needs CITES paperwork to cross a border. Most replicas use calf leather with an embossed pattern.
- Return terms and the payment method. Card payments give a chargeback path. Bank transfer does not.
