IW93860 is not a reference number in the public IWC catalog. IWC prints references with the prefix IW and four or six digits, for example IW3716 or IW371605. A five digit string like 93860 shows up in seller listings, not in IWC documents. When a listing says "IW93860," ask for the caseback photo, the model name, and the movement photo before you send money.
What the number may be
Three cases cover most listings.
- A typo for a real reference. Six digit IWC numbers lose a digit in copy pasted listing text.
- A factory batch code. Replica factories label runs with codes that have no link to IWC.
- A made up number. Some sellers invent references so buyers cannot compare prices across stores.
None of these cases tells you what watch arrives. Only the photos and the model name do.
Checks on the watch
- Caseback: reference, serial, and model name engraved. Ask for a sharp photo at an angle.
- Dial: subdial spacing, date window position, logo placement. Replica dials shift subdials by 0.5 mm to 1 mm.
- Numerals: IWC uses applied markers with polished edges. Low grade replicas print the markers.
- Date font: IWC uses a narrow, tall font on most Portuguese and Pilot models. Replica date wheels use a wider stock font.
- Movement: ask for a photo with the rotor turned. Clone 7750 and A2892 movements are common in replicas.
- Size data: case diameter, thickness, and weight in numbers, not words.
- Water resistance: claims of 100 m or more need a pressure test sheet.
Price tiers
Replica IWC watches sell in three tiers. Low grade runs $80 to $150 and uses a 21 jewel clone with a stamped rotor. Mid grade runs $200 to $400 and adds a clone 7750 or A2892. High grade runs $450 to $900 and copies the case shape and dial print with more care. No tier makes the watch genuine, and no tier adds IWC warranty or service.
US import rules
US Customs and Border Protection can seize a shipment that holds counterfeit goods. The buyer gets a seizure notice, not a refund. 19 U.S.C. 1526 bars import of goods with a counterfeit mark. A single watch for personal use falls under the same statute. Some sellers reship after a seizure. A second seizure can end the same way.
Questions for the seller
- Send a photo of the caseback with the reference and serial readable.
- Send a photo of the movement with the rotor turned.
- Give case diameter, thickness, and weight in numbers.
- State the crystal material and the movement name.
- State the return policy in writing.
A seller who skips these answers gives you no data. Move to the next listing.
