Short answer
Counterfeit Cartier Tortue 2024 watches exist, and they are not hard to find. Cartier released the Tortue in 2024 as that year's Privé model, in small numbered runs, and fake versions started appearing within months, mostly through social media sellers and marketplace listings. Most of them fail on three things: the curve of the case flanks, the pusher layout on the Monopoussoir chronograph, and the movement you can see through the sapphire caseback.

What the genuine 2024 Tortue is
The Tortue shape dates to 1912, a tonneau case with sides that swell and taper like a tortoise shell. The 2024 revival keeps that profile and adds a sapphire cabochon crown, a silvered dial with Roman numerals, and blued steel hands. Two versions matter here. There is a time-only model in platinum and yellow gold running a thin manual-wind calibre, and there is the Tortue Monopoussoir, a single-button chronograph with the pusher at 2 o'clock and Cartier's in-house 1928 MC manual movement. Both were produced in limited, numbered quantities. That scarcity is exactly why fakes showed up so fast.

Case and crown checks
- The case flanks should curve continuously from lug to lug, with no hard break in the middle. Many fakes have flat sides with a chamfer machined into them, and it looks slabby on the wrist.
- Platinum has real density. A rhodium-plated steel fake of the same size feels noticeably light in the hand.
- The crown cabochon should be a domed sapphire in a deep blue. Fakes often use glass or dyed stone with a flat top and a muddy colour.
- Lug finishing should be consistent on all four lugs. Counterfeits frequently leave polish marks or uneven brushing on the underside.
Dial and hand checks
- Look at the Cartier script under magnification. On the real dial the letterforms are even and cleanly cut. On fakes the spacing drifts and the strokes thicken in the heavier letters.
- Roman numerals should sit on a straight baseline with consistent stroke weight. Crooked or fat numerals are the most common giveaway in photos.
- Hands are blued steel on the originals. Painted or anodised hands on a fake tend to look purple or flat grey under direct light.
- Do not rely on the old hidden signature trick. Plenty of counterfeit dials copy it now, so typography and print quality matter more than that one detail.
Movement and caseback
- The 2024 Tortue is manual wind. If you see a rotor through the caseback, or if the watch is quartz, it is not a Cartier Tortue.
- Real finishing includes Geneva stripes, perlage on the plates, and crisp engraving. Fakes use stock movements with stamped decoration and shallow laser engraving that looks beaded up close.
- Serial and reference engravings on the caseback should have consistent depth and sharp edges. Laser marks look grey and slightly fuzzy.
Red flags in listings
The pattern is consistent. An unworn 2024 Tortue, full set, priced at a steep discount from retail, sold by a private account that will not meet at a boutique or an authorised watchmaker. Photos that avoid the caseback. A warranty card with a serial that does not match the case. If a seller resists an in-person inspection by a third party, walk away.

Legal and money risk
Buying or importing counterfeit goods into the United States is illegal, and shipments are subject to seizure by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Trafficking in counterfeit trademarked goods carries criminal penalties. Beyond the legal side, a counterfeit Cartier cannot be serviced by Cartier, has no warranty, and resells for close to nothing. That last point tends to matter more to buyers than the first two.
Cartier Tortue 2024 Buyer's Guide: Real Watches, Fakes, and What to Verify
How to verify before you pay
Ask for the reference number and the serial, then have both checked by a Cartier boutique or an independent watchmaker who handles the brand. On the Monopoussoir, ask for a video of the chronograph starting, stopping, and resetting from the single pusher at 2 o'clock. A two-button chronograph is not a Monopoussoir, no matter what the listing says. Given how few 2024 Tortue watches were made, anything described as new and cheap deserves maximum suspicion.
